Inspiration
Local governments are the closest institutions to people’s daily lives — yet they often lack tools to track how their spending translates into real-world impact. Inspired by years of grassroots development work and policy gaps in planning, we built SLGIPS to empower a single local body — anywhere in the world — to make smarter, data-driven decisions. I realised it because in my new assignment , i am working on this Domain.
What it does
SLGIPS (Smart Local Government Impact & Planning System) is a modular software tool that allows a local body to: Map its population, geography, and resources Track own-source and external funding Monitor projects over time Evaluate before-and-after impact Forecast needs and prioritize sectors Generate reports, dashboards, and GIS maps It works offline, supports multiple languages, and adapts to local revenue systems and laws.
How we built it
SLGIPS was developed on the Bolt.new platform using a free-tier account. We used:
JSON for storing project indicators and evaluation data
TypeScript and TSX for building core UI components
CSS for responsive styling
HTML for structural layout
Additional integrations planned for GIS, Excel, and printable PDFs
Bolt.new helped us rapidly prototype and link logic, data flow, and UI under one environment.
Challenges we ran into
Creating a model flexible enough to work for any local government globally while remaining lightweight Designing an impact evaluation engine that works with minimal data Handling regional customizations for taxes, indicators, and legal frameworks Managing offline-first functionality within a web-driven framework
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Fully functional prototype that tracks and visualizes development project outcomes A flexible and scalable design that works from a small panchayat in India to a commune in Africa A clean, accessible UI built using Bolt.new’s intuitive ecosystem Integration-ready modules for AI-driven forecasting and GIS mapping
What we learned
Micro-level planning requires adaptable systems, not one-size-fits-all tools Local governments need both simplicity and intelligence — the challenge is balancing them Bolt.new can power complex civic solutions rapidly, even under free-tier constraints
What's next for SLGIPS- Local Planning Tool
Integrating GIS data layers and time-series visualizations Adding AI models to predict future needs and development gaps Connecting with open government APIs for real-time data syncing Piloting in a real local body with multilingual field deployment Building a community of contributors to scale SLGIPS globally
