Inspiration

In the past, music players became explosively popular because they were perfect for use during commutes to work or school. Similarly, the idea of using SleepIn at bedtime will make consumers want to own a Quest. I personally use the Quest every night for watching videos and reading books. However, I find it inconvenient to use my hands for controls. SleepIn was developed based on this experience.

What it does

・Virtual pets manage your bedtime and support your nightly routine. ・It provides perfect bedtime content, such as changing music or ambient sounds and checking tomorrow's weather. ・It employs head tracking for comfortable, hands-free control while watching videos or reading books in a lying position. In the demo, you can even turn the pages of a book. ・It connects your smart home devices to the Quest via Bluetooth, allowing you to turn off the room lights with hand gestures.

How we built it

We decided on the concept of "bedtime use" based on our real-life experiences of wanting to use the Quest before sleeping. We used Passthrough, Hand Tracking, and MR Utility Kit - Scene API to bring this concept to life.

Challenges we ran into

We didn't have enough time to implement the save and load feature for room settings.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a concept that makes everyone want to use the Quest every night is something we are proud of. The clear benefit of being able to watch videos and read more comfortably than with a smartphone or tablet at bedtime is evident to everyone. Plus, there's no need to worry about makeup or messy hair at bedtime.

What we learned

We learned that products and services that make daily life more convenient are widely accepted by many people. We also realized that the Quest has the potential to be used not just for VR gaming, but also to enhance everyday life.

What's next for SleepIn

The global sleep market is massive, valued at $585 billion. We will not only focus on making SleepIn easier to use but also explore enhancing the comfort of wearing the Quest during sleep. We aim to integrate with smartwatches and develop products that improve the overall sleeping experience, tapping into significant potential opportunities.
