Inspiration

Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) is a widespread yet widely undiagnosed condition in the population.

What it does

We provide a simple, low-cost solution to both healthcare professionals and patients to better understand this disorder and allow for more accurate diagnosis.

This is important because PLMD is widely undiagnosed due a lack of understanding and data available for healthcare professionals. Current methods to diagnose PLMD are inconvenient, costly, and drain hospital resources.

How we built it

Used arduino, flex sensor, clock module, resistors, accelerometer, and a mini-board.

Challenges we ran into

  • Identifying the movements related to PLMD
  • Ensuring calibration was consistent for each trial

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Able to distinguish between multiple forms of movement, and log the correct events into memory for further data processing.

What we learned

  • Iterative development process requires a logical chain of thought and goal setting
  • Your initial plan will most probably fail. But failure is just part of the process

What's next for SleepEasy

  • Potential to waterproof and integrate into a sock-like fabric for comfort and ease of use
  • Miniaturisation of the device
  • Use of bluetooth modules to transfer data
