Like many people, I struggled with maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, especially during busy weeks. I’d wake up feeling exhausted, promise myself I’d sleep earlier, and somehow fall into the same pattern again. The problem wasn’t just knowing I was tired; it was not realizing how much sleep debt I was carrying or how to catch up strategically.

That’s when the idea for SleepDebt came to life: What if there was a simple, user-friendly tool that didn’t just track sleep but also calculated accumulated sleep debt and gave recovery recommendations tailored to your lifestyle?

I wanted to build something that could help people like me (folks juggling work, studies, or family) find balance, improve their sleep health, and wake up feeling better.

What it does

SleepDebt is more than a sleep tracker; it’s a personal sleep recovery coach.

  • Set Personalized Sleep Goals: Based on your age, target hours, and activity level.
  • Log Sleep Easily: i. Quick Log for fast, everyday use ii. Detailed Log for precise bedtime, wake time, sleep quality, and notes
  • Calculate Sleep Debt: Tracks how many hours you’re behind on sleep compared to your target and categorizes it (Good, Moderate, High).
  • Review Progress: Visualize trends with an interactive, color-coded 7-day sleep chart.
  • Receive AI-Driven Recommendations: i. Nap suggestions based on last night’s sleep ii. Recovery plans tailored to your current sleep debt iii. Sleep hygiene tips and wind-down routines
  • Real-time Data Sync: Thanks to Supabase, your logs, settings, and recommendations update instantly.
  • User Guide to help users understand the app.

It’s designed to help people understand their sleep patterns and take practical steps toward healthier, more consistent rest.

How I built it

I built SleepDebt using BoltAI, a no-code/low-code AI workflow platform, integrated with Supabase as the backend database and authentication service. Here’s a breakdown of how everything connects:

  • BoltAI: Handled AI-driven recommendations, including dynamic nap suggestions and sleep recovery strategies based on individual sleep patterns and debt levels.
  • Supabase: Managed user authentication, sleep log entries, goal settings, and stored personalized recommendations securely in a real-time database.

Challenges I ran into

UX Simplicity: Making detailed logging feel as effortless as a one-tap log while still offering useful customization options.
