Inspiration

  • As high school students, we have often neglected our sleep to complete our work
  • We wanted to see the effect this has had on our physical and mental health
  • We hope that this program will help others in our position prioritize their physical and mental health, starting with their sleep

What it does

  • Takes in the user's age, sleep and wake up time
  • Using these values and the CDC's recommendations for sleeping hours, the program gives a recommendation on the user's sleeping habits

How we built it

  • We first created a method to determine the range of recommended sleep hours given the user's age
  • We then created methods to convert the input time to a number and find the numbers of hours slept
  • Using the number of hours slept and age, we evaluate the user's sleeping habits
  • We used repl.it and google colab to test our methods

Challenges we ran into

  • Converting string inputs to numbers to run calculations
  • Differentiating between AM and PM times

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Being able to visualize the relationship between age and recommended sleep through a histogram

What we learned

  • How to utilize the split method
  • How to create graphs in python

What's next for Sleep Schedule Tracker

  • Work on the front-end development to make it more user friendly
