Slatify

Inspiration

As a student, I spend a significant amount of time learning from YouTube lectures. However, I often found myself juggling screenshots, notes, and timestamps across different apps. Revisiting an important concept later meant manually searching through long videos, which was both frustrating and time-consuming. I built Slatify to make video-based learning more organized and efficient.

What It Does

Slatify enables students to take screenshots and create notes while watching YouTube lectures. Every note and screenshot is automatically linked to the exact timestamp of the video where it was captured. The app organizes study materials in a structured way, allowing users to review key concepts and instantly jump back to the relevant section of the lecture with a single click.

How I Built It

I developed a mobile application that combines screenshot capture, note-taking, timestamp tracking, and content organization into a seamless workflow. The system stores timestamp metadata alongside each screenshot and note, creating a direct connection between study material and the source lecture. I also designed an automatic organization system to make revision faster and more intuitive.

Challenges I Faced

The biggest challenge was deterministic categorization of notes. Students write notes in highly diverse formats, making it difficult to consistently organize related information into meaningful categories. I had to design a system that could categorize content predictably and accurately while remaining flexible enough to handle different subjects and note-taking styles. Another challenge was ensuring that screenshots and notes were always associated with the correct video timestamp without disrupting the learning experience.

What I Learned

Through building Slatify, I gained hands-on experience in mobile app development, metadata management, educational technology, and user experience design. I also learned how important it is to minimize friction in learning tools and create workflows that feel natural to students.

Impact

Slatify helps students spend less time managing notes and more time learning. By connecting screenshots, notes, and lecture timestamps into a unified workflow, it makes revision faster, more organized, and significantly more effective.

Future Plans

I plan to add AI-powered note summarization, automatic topic detection, semantic search across notes, and cloud synchronization across devices. My long-term vision is to build a comprehensive study companion that helps students capture, organize, and revisit knowledge effortlessly.
