About the Project SlateArt Smart Story transforms a physical engraved stone into an interactive digital memory. By scanning a QR code, users enter a cinematic 3D world built around a symbolic memory tree. From there, they can explore written stories, photographs, voice recordings, videos, and time-locked secret messages. A lightweight 2D version is also available for accessibility and slower devices. Inspiration The project was inspired by a simple question: How can a physical keepsake preserve more than an image? We wanted to connect traditional craftsmanship with AI-assisted storytelling and modern web technology. The stone becomes a permanent physical object, while its digital experience can continue growing with new memories. How We Built It We created the platform using Three.js, JavaScript, PHP, WebGL, HTML, CSS, and a database-backed customer management system. AI supported the creative development process, visual direction, interface refinement, content structuring, debugging, and performance optimization. The experience includes: An interactive 3D memory tree Cinematic word-by-word story animations Photo and video galleries Voice memories Time-locked secret messages Customer-controlled 3D or classic 2D presentation Mobile performance optimization An administration and pricing system Challenges The greatest challenge was delivering a visually impressive 3D experience that still worked smoothly on mobile devices. Multiple WebGL scenes, animated typography, lighting, particles, and atmospheric effects created significant performance pressure. We solved this by dynamically limiting rendering work, updating only visible story scenes, reducing unnecessary GPU layers, adapting quality to the device, and providing a reliable 2D fallback. What We Learned We learned that meaningful technology is not defined only by visual complexity. Performance, accessibility, emotional clarity, and ease of use are equally important. AI was most valuable as a creative and technical collaborator—helping us iterate faster while keeping human emotion and physical craftsmanship at the centre of the project.
