Inspiration

We created Slark because cyberattacks are becoming more common, but many developers and small businesses still don't have an easy way to monitor their applications. Most security tools are expensive and difficult to use. We wanted to build something simple that helps people see what is happening in real time and understand security threats without needing to be a cybersecurity expert.

What it does

Slark is a platform that monitors cyber threats in real time. It collects suspicious requests from websites or APIs through a lightweight middleware and displays them on a live dashboard. Users can see where attacks are coming from, view attack history, inspect request details, and get AI-powered explanations with suggestions on how to improve their security. The goal is to help developers quickly understand and respond to potential threats.

How we built it

We built Slark using Next.js and React for the frontend, creating a modern dashboard with interactive 3D visualizations using Three.js. The backend is built with Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, and Socket.IO for real-time updates. We also created a Python middleware called PrimeDefender to collect attack data from protected applications. AI is used to explain attacks in simple language and provide helpful recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was handling real-time attack data without slowing down the system. We also spent a lot of time designing a dashboard that shows complex security information in a way that is easy to understand. Another challenge was making the AI explanations useful for developers who may not have a cybersecurity background.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we built a complete working platform from scratch. Slark can collect attack data, display it in real time, and use AI to explain what is happening. We also created a lightweight middleware that is easy to integrate into existing applications, making the platform practical for developers.

What we learned

This project taught us that cybersecurity is not just about detecting attacks. It is also about helping people understand them. We learned a lot about real-time systems, backend development, AI integration, and how to turn complex technical data into information that is simple and useful.

What's next for Slark

We plan to add more smart features, such as automatic threat response, better AI recommendations, and support for more cloud platforms and frameworks. Our long-term goal is to make Slark an affordable and easy-to-use cybersecurity platform that helps developers and organizations keep their applications secure.
