Inspiration
We drew inspiration from the famous nickelodeon show Victorious and they featured a fictional social media app called slap app, which was a social media app centered around student life and student activities.
What it does
It's supposed to generate a student oriented profile and then provide real time updates to student activities and plans. For example, you could use it to promote your very own HenHacks and spread awareness to it when most people wouldn't see it otherwise. It could also be used for smaller experiences such as group hangouts or study sessions.
How we built it
We initially started by building a backend for the server side of it in JavaScript but then was unable to finish the server side aspect. Then we worked on the frontend and on designing HomePage, LoginPage, Widgets, etc.
Challenges we ran into
We realized how much of a task we were taking on and were unable to get past some glaring errors. As well as this would be an extensive project that would take many hours to accomplish. As the team got stuck we decided to rest on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to implement a lot of JavaScript code and ideas with little to no experience in JavaScript. Also proud to have been able to progress a lot of backend software in the project.
What we learned
We learned how to use JavaScript better, how to work with frontends and backends, and most importantly how tedious and challenging these can be.
What's next for SlapApp (unfinished)
I believe the vision is perfect for University settings and can be developed further into something bigger. I would like to work on it further as we expand our knowledge on this subject and gain more time to work on it. However I feel the learning we gained from it provided a good head start for us in our project building.
