Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project was to provide students and ADHD patients with a resource to encourage productivity. We planned to make this project interactive for all users by implementing a coin collection system that can be exchanged for in-app rewards. As students, we have personal experiences of easily being distracted ourselves.

What it does

The program consists of a timer with a brake system that activates whenever the timer reaches 0. We also have a notes section that the users could submit to track their daily progress and come back to review their work whenever needed. Lastly, we have a checklist function that allows the students to be organized.

How we built it

First, we began by using html and CSS to create an interface that we could start off with. Then we began to create more objects and implement more images and logic which resulted in us using javascript to create the backend system for the code. This included calculations with the timer, checklist management, and note-taking submission system.

Challenges we ran into

During the event, we ran into many challenges, however, one logic challenge that we faced proved to be very prominent. This challenge was calculating the correct times and not allowing the countdown to go to negative values. Our team was extremely confused by this logic error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An accomplishment that we are proud of is solving the logic error from the timer system. Although we had to ask for assistance to solve this problem, we were glad that we understood the logical error and learned from our mistakes. Another reason why this was our accomplishment was because we spent a lot of time on it rather than moving on to other parts of our code.

What we learned

We learned many valuable lessons. However, a prominent lesson we learned was teamwork. We improved our teamwork skills by working collaboratively, checking on each other, and pointing out mistakes, as well as our communication skills. Although I believe we are a talented group of hackers, we had to ask for help from other fellow hackers. This gave us the opportunity to go out of our comfort zones and meet new people, improving our communication skills.

What's next for Slackless

Slackless plans to improve the app so that we can cater to all students worldwide. The distraction crisis preventing many students from finishing work, working slower, or procrastinating completely is a serious problem.
