Inspiration

The commercial drone industry is experiencing explosive growth, but operators face a critical bottleneck: they can't legally access private airspace at scale. At the same time, property owners have valuable air rights that sit unused and have no way of knowing what's happening in their vertical space. We realized there's a massive opportunity to create the infrastructure that connects these two sides, starting with giving property owners visibility and control over their airspace through a simple mobile app.

What it does

SkyTrade Radar is a mobile app that empowers property owners to become active participants in the drone economy. Users can monitor real-time drone activity around their property, view restricted and allowed air rights zones, and earn rewards through our decentralized network. The app serves as both a "Ring doorbell for your airspace" and the mobile gateway to our broader airspace marketplace, where users can set rental prices, approve flight requests, and monetize their air rights while helping drone operators find legal flight corridors.

How we built it

We developed SkyTrade Radar as a multi-platform mobile application with a robust backend infrastructure. Our technical stack leverages blockchain technology for immutable air rights registration and decentralized radar data collection. We integrated real-time drone detection capabilities, geofencing for restricted zones, and a points-based reward system that creates network effects. The app connects to our broader ecosystem through APIs that serve drone operators, real estate companies, and emergency services.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was creating accurate real-time drone detection without requiring expensive hardware infrastructure. We also had to solve complex geospatial calculations for air rights visualization and ensure our blockchain integration remained user-friendly for non-technical property owners. Balancing regulatory compliance with innovation in an emerging market required careful navigation of aviation laws and property rights frameworks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created the first mobile app that combines drone monitoring with airspace monetization. Our decentralized radar network approach addresses the scalability issue that traditional drone detection systems encounter. We're particularly proud of our user experience design, which makes complex concepts like air rights trading accessible to everyday property owners, and our points system that creates genuine network effects, driving user engagement.

What we learned

We discovered that the real barrier to drone industry growth isn't just regulatory - it's the lack of efficient discovery and transaction mechanisms between drone operators and airspace owners. We learned that property owners are surprisingly interested in monetizing their air rights once they understand the opportunity. Most importantly, we validated that starting with a simple mobile monitoring app is the right entry point to build toward a full airspace marketplace.

What's next for SkyTrade Radar

We're expanding our decentralized radar network by partnering with existing DePIN networks and targeting the 36 Walmart drone delivery locations as initial commercial use cases. Our roadmap includes launching our full web-based marketplace for air rights trading, developing APIs for drone companies and real estate platforms. We're also exploring partnerships with municipalities and asset managers to scale our network effects across major metropolitan areas.
