Inspiration

SkyLeap was inspired by the way players react to height, speed and vertical movement in VR.
Watching how people climb and explore virtual environments made it clear that strong upward motion can create a unique sense of freedom and excitement.
The goal was to build a VR experience where rhythm, timing and flow come together to form a fast and satisfying style of movement.

What it does

SkyLeap is a vertical parkour VR game where players climb structures, time their jumps and chain movements together to reach the top as efficiently as possible.
The game emphasizes precision, momentum and route optimization.
It also features global leaderboards that push players to refine their paths and compete for the best times.

Players experience:

  • fast vertical progression
  • intuitive traversal mechanics
  • replayable vertical challenges
  • global competition through leaderboards

How we built it

The project was built with a custom movement system focused on comfort, responsiveness and consistency.
Level design combines procedural generation with handcrafted elements to create dynamic layouts that remain readable and fair.
We optimized the entire experience for standalone VR headsets, ensuring high performance even during fast motion.

Development included:

  • designing reliable and comfortable traversal mechanics
  • constructing hybrid levels with both fixed and dynamic elements
  • tuning physics and distances for vertical gameplay
  • integrating global online leaderboards
  • optimizing for mobile VR hardware

Challenges we ran into

Some of the key challenges included:

  • balancing speed and comfort during vertical movement
  • designing levels that guide players without restricting freedom
  • ensuring traversal remains precise across different player styles
  • maintaining high framerates during fast climbing and jumping sequences
  • supporting fair and repeatable leaderboard runs

Finding the right balance between challenge, readability and comfort required many iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of:

  • building a smooth and comfortable vertical movement flow
  • creating levels that reward exploration and mastery
  • implementing competitive global leaderboards
  • achieving strong performance on standalone VR devices
  • shaping gameplay that players quickly understand and enjoy

Seeing players experiment with different routes and improve their times has been especially rewarding.

What we learned

Throughout development we learned:

  • comfort in VR is shaped by many small details in timing and motion
  • vertical level design requires precise control of distances, angles and pacing
  • combining procedural and handcrafted design gives both variety and structure
  • competitive features deeply increase replayability
  • players naturally push traversal mechanics far beyond initial expectations

These insights helped refine the final experience.

What's next for SkyLeap

The future of SkyLeap focuses on expanding the game's depth, variety and community driven growth.

Planned updates include:

  • new game modes that introduce fresh challenges and replayability
  • expanded customization with new models, colors and visual styles
  • active collaboration with the community to shape future content

Player feedback will play a central role in development.
We want SkyLeap to evolve together with its players, guided by their ideas, suggestions and creative approaches to movement and strategy.

SkyLeap will continue growing as a project built around skill, style and community driven innovation.
