Inspiration

Lumever is an Edtech company which focuses on achieving the SDG goal 4 which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” Lumever was founded by Patrick Obumselu an agent for social change who is committed to ensuring positive change in the lives of young Nigerians. At Lumever we carry out youth development programs, educational advocacy activities, skill acquisition programs and leadership training.

What it does

Skylar is an online educational platform where students in Nigeria can gain relevant work skills in line with their career path and have access to job opportunities and be able to receive payments from any part of the world.

Skylar incorporates student focused learning through active student participation in researches and special tasks. Skylar incorporates a reward based learning where students can earn tokens while learning and also have access to jobs to earn profit. Skylar uses the digitalBits to send and accept payment. Students will interact with digital simulations, this ensures that students make connection with what is being taught and real science is delivered. Secure E-Portfolio for student academic records Students’ performance in Skylar will be recorded and stored in a secure server, these can be retrieved by schools during application of a job.

How we built it

It was java programming language with android studio, we build our wallet on DigitalBits blockchain

Challenges we ran into

I am still a beginner in java language for app development. This was the first time we interacted with digitalbits blockchain solution .

What we learned

We’ve gained hands on experience through the documentation and we have seen practical ways to apply digitalbits tools in the real world.

What's next for Skylar

We are going to be testing Skylar with real users, we will go to different schools to see how students interact with this app and get parents/teachers feedback, we will then proceed to build the main product by considering the the feedback we’ve gotten.
