Inspiration
Traveling can be stressful, especially when flight information is scattered or delayed. We wanted to build a solution that provides passengers with clear, real-time flight updates in a single, user-friendly interface.
What it does
SkyAssist is a smart flight information tool that delivers real-time updates about flights, including departure and arrival times, gate changes, terminal info, and delays—helping passengers stay informed and travel with confidence.
How we built it
Developed using AgentForce Performed external API callouts using Apex to the AviationStack API Built a clean and responsive user interface for entering flight details Parsed and displayed JSON responses from the API dynamically Designed the component to be bulk-safe and easily extensible
Challenges we ran into
Handling time zones and inconsistent formats in flight data Setting up external callouts securely within Salesforce Dealing with rate limits and occasional incomplete API responses Optimizing the user interface to work smoothly with real-time data
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully integrated a live API into Salesforce with minimal latency Built a real-time flight lookup tool entirely within the Salesforce platform Ensured the system can handle multiple queries reliably
What we learned
Best practices for making external callouts in Apex Structuring an AgentForce for real-time search functionality Handling dynamic JSON data in Salesforce
Importance of user-centered design in building travel tools
What's next for SkyAssist
Add support for user alerts (e.g., SMS/email updates on flight status) Allow users to save favorite flights for quick access Build a mobile-friendly version or Salesforce Experience Cloud portal Integrate weather or delay prediction data for added value
