Inspiration : Comes from how the classroom keeps students from real world experiences and keeps their nose buried in the books... We all are intimidated of what's next after college, and not getting hired because of lack of experience... This drives us to the next level of what education should be, and how the system as a whole needs to better equip those learning...
What it does: "Beyond the TextBook" transforms the education system and transports the student into real world scenarios through VR-goggles/glasses to build a self-empowerment for their future... We use specifics of what the student studies are, and create a virtual reality world of actually doing the job in a emulation... We also combine the amazing power of IBM-Watson to use voice so the user can better understand the language of studies... Ex: studying hardware: in the virtual realm the user controls what he can import... I need a hard drive, processor, motherboard, exc... As this comes into the VR-goggles/glasses the user will have the ability to use the emulation that has been created in the application to perform a real repair or build a desktop... There is a bosses voice that keeps time of you and yells as if you were on the job and the company had to produce the product in a nick of time... You are also graded and told what should of been done and if any errors are made... Any study can benefit from the the evolution of this technology and use this app to not just understand the curriculum, but to come out of school as if they have been employed already...
How we built it: IBM-Watson, Android-studio, java, virtual-studio, sublime text-editor, and extremely large amounts of "RedBull"...
Challenges we ran into: Having to deal with a real world scenario that would make a better impact in the minds of our future... Studying in real-time has it's challenges and voice makes the VR complicated to control...
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Being at the Hackathon has been one of the most beneficial experiences that we could all imagine... We accomplished different achievements from all the workshops that were provided... We hope some day to turn this Hackathon into an app as well...
What we learned: Team roles and planning has been extremely satisfying... Looking beyond the scopes of everyday education and what has been the norm for centuries that we are building on... The way we have all came together and grabbed a hold of the future for a better tomorrow... No longer will an employer shy anyone away for not having enough experience...
What's next for "Beyond the TextBook": We all came to an agreement that we will keep focus on what tomorrow can bring with the power of technology, and keep programming... Redesigning the infrastructure of the world; into the virtual realm of the mind...
