π§ Inspiration
We wanted to recreate the thrill of classic arcade shooters while adding a fun, unexpected twist. Instead of just blasting enemies, we introduced a fruit-collection mechanic that keeps your energy alive β merging reflex, strategy, and arcade nostalgia into a fresh browser experience.
β¨ What it does
Sky Fruity Flyers is a fast-paced browser game where you:
- π© Dodge enemy planes using smooth arrow-key controls
- π₯ Blast foes with rapid SPACE-bar shooting
- π Collect falling fruits to keep your energy bar full
- β‘ Push your score higher by surviving wave after wave of enemies
Itβs easy to pick up but challenging to master β perfect for both casual players and high-score hunters.
π How we built it
We developed the game using:
- JavaScript & Phaser.js for game mechanics and animations
- HTML5 & CSS3 for layout and UI elements
- 11Labs / Web Audio API for immersive sound effects
- Hosted on Vercel for instant browser play, no installations required
We focused on keeping the game lightweight, responsive, and fast, so it runs smoothly even on lower-end devices.
𧱠Challenges we ran into
- Balancing difficulty progression to make the game fun for both beginners and experts
- Ensuring collision detection between fruits, bullets, and enemy planes worked seamlessly
- Optimizing performance to maintain 60 FPS on different browsers and devices
- Fine-tuning audio latency to keep sound effects in sync with actions
π Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a fully playable arcade game in a short time frame π
- Achieving a smooth, lag-free experience across browsers
- Adding a unique fruit mechanic that makes the gameplay addictive and fun
- Packaging the game so it can be played instantly through a single Vercel link β¨
π What we learned
- How to structure Phaser.js scenes efficiently for game loop optimization
- The importance of small UI feedbacks (like energy bar changes and hit animations) in enhancing player experience
- How simple mechanics, when polished well, can create engaging gameplay loops
- Deploying fast and reliably using modern serverless hosting platforms
π What's next for Sky Fruity Flyers | Fruit Attack | Fruit Blaster: Sky Aces
We plan to:
- π Add multiplayer modes for real-time dogfights
- π Introduce leaderboards and player rankings
- π¨ Launch new levels, enemy types, and power-ups
- π± Release mobile versions on Google Play and App Store
- π₯ Integrate special seasonal events (e.g., Halloween fruits, Christmas missions)
