Inspiration
As a horrible golf player and someone who never felt like getting out of bed, I was inspired to create something that could make me better at golf and get me more active. Without making a robot to always give me a hole in one, I actually created a program to help my aim.
What it does
There are two different functional modes: one is a light show that plays music for fun, and the other is the aim trainer that helps you improve your skills. With the aim trainer you need to connect a webcam for easiest use or point your laptop or phone screen onto your playing field. Once you have a good view of the area, select a set amount of circles that you must make it to in order to get the point. In reality, if you were playing golf you would want to set it to different holes and if you were playing pool you would set it to the different pocket.
How we built it
OpenCV and Python
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to be able to recognize the variety of things like golf balls, cue balls, discs, and more. It was also very difficult to adjust the program to work in different lighting conditions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud of it successfully working as well as my golf skills getting one up’d!
What we learned
I learned a lot about OpenCV and trying to integrate Flask with GCP although that part isn’t currently functional.
What's next for Skopós
My next big goal is to deploy this onto a website so anyone could go out and improve their own aim in the sport of their choosing.
Best domain name
I created the name Skopós for this project because it stands for the word “aim” in greek. It perfectly represents the goal of my application.
