Inspiration
I teach a full-stack development course at the University of Washington in St. Louis, One of my students wanted to use Calendly for her homework, but soon she had a bunch of problems with it, so I spent some time helping her to do what she was trying to do, soon I realized that the problem was from the Calendly itself! It was so closed-up, rigid and inflexible, and hard to use that I thought I'll make a simple booking system myself and make it available for free and I decided to make it on WEB3 technologies as that's the future.. I started with Ethereum, but soon realized it's not going to be practical because of transaction times and cost, after some research I decided to go with Solana and found out about the Ignite hackathon and here we are!
What it does
Skjl.me is booking system that does everything that ( for instance ) Calendly does and more.
How we built it
We built it using Web3 technologies, React on the UI side ( statically hosted on S3 ) and some Serverless backend
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was the dynamics of an international team, spread over the globe with many different time zones! but that was a fun challenge and one that we found creative ways to solve!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we finished the first milestone ( POC 01 ) We have big plans and want to continue the project further after the hackathon as well.
What we learned
- More Web3 technologies,
- Developing for Solana using Rust
- Third party tools and libraries like Solana Wallet adaptor
What's next for SKJL.me
We have a lot of ideas and up a road map to achieve them, We want to continue expanding our team and form a core group of engineers, developers and other experts to help establish this as a real service and contender to existing systems like Calendly.
