Inspiration
- Most men are confused or overwhelmed by skincare.
- 76% say clear skin boosts confidence, but 40% don’t research it.
- The skincare industry often ignores men — we saw a clear gap and real need.
- We’ve lived the problem ourselves — that’s why we built Skintelligence.
What it does
- AI-powered skincare app built for men.
- Short quiz that understands your needs, and gives personalised product recommendations.
- Sends a sample kit first so users can try before they buy.
- Full-size products available via monthly subscription (20% off retail).
How we built it
- Conducted surveys to validate the problem.
- Designed a clean, easy-to-use quiz and interface using Vite + React for the frontend.
- Developed a recommendation engine based on data online served by a backend powered by python and flask.
Challenges we ran into
- Stigma made it tough to gather honest user feedback.
- Product-to-skin-type matching was complex and time-consuming.
- Difficult to create a strong system with many things in it in such a short time frame.
- Balancing ease-of-use with intelligent recommendations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Validated a real market gap with strong survey data.
- Created something to solve a real problem that people face.
- Built a functioning MVP with real product recommendations.
- Created an innovative sample-first model to reduce commitment fear.
What we learned
- Simplicity is essential — especially for hesitant users.
- Men do want skincare help if it's stigma-free and easy.
- Trial-first builds trust — users want to test before committing.
- Execution and feedback matter more than just having a great idea.
- Development should be user focused, starting early is important.
- React is a pain.
What’s next for Skintelligence
- Improve AI with more user input and skin data.
- Add more product types (e.g. hair, body care).
- Launch pilot program and test sample kit logistics.
- Expand brand partnerships and user base through marketing.
- Make men's skincare accessible, affordable, and normal.
