Inspiration
My inspiration for creating SkinSense AI comes from seeing many people, especially young women, spend a lot of money on skincare products without knowing if those products are suitable for their skin. Many people choose products because they are expensive, trending, or recommended by others, but later experience skin problems, waste money, and spend more time searching for solutions. I wanted to create a smarter solution that helps people understand their skin before buying products.
What it does
SkinSense AI is an AI-powered skincare assistant that analyzes a user's skin, lifestyle, and environment to provide personalized skincare recommendations. Users upload skin images, share information about their skin concerns, and allow climate analysis. The AI detects visible concerns such as acne, dryness, oiliness, dark spots, redness, and texture, then recommends suitable routines, ingredients, and products based on their skin type, budget, allergies, and climate conditions.
How we built it
We combine computer vision models for skin image analysis, AI recommendation systems for personalized advice, climate intelligence using environmental data, and product ingredient analysis using AI and OCR technology. The platform is designed as a mobile application with AI services working together to provide a complete skincare experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing an AI system that can understand different skin types, conditions, lighting environments, and individual differences. Another challenge was ensuring recommendations are personalized, safe, and based on reliable skincare knowledge rather than simple product advertising.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a concept that combines AI, computer vision, and environmental intelligence to solve a real-world problem. We are proud of developing an idea that can help people reduce unnecessary spending, make better skincare decisions, and access personalized guidance more easily.
What we learned
We learned that successful AI solutions require more than just technology; they need a deep understanding of user problems, responsible AI design, data quality, and continuous improvement based on user feedback.
What's next for SkinSense
Our next steps are to develop a working prototype, improve skin analysis accuracy, expand product and ingredient databases, add skin progress tracking, and create partnerships with skincare professionals and brands to make personalized skincare accessible worldwide.
