Based on wandjazzbar (a digital jazz bar experience), here is a polished hackathon / GitHub project description:
Inspiration
Jazz has always been more than music — it is an atmosphere, a conversation, and a moment frozen in time. Traditional jazz bars create unique experiences through dim lights, vinyl records, cocktails, and spontaneous performances. We wanted to bring that intimate feeling into the digital world.
wandjazzbar was inspired by the idea of creating a personal virtual jazz space where people can slow down, explore music, and experience the emotional atmosphere of a real jazz bar anytime and anywhere.
What it does
wandjazzbar is an immersive digital jazz bar experience that recreates the feeling of entering a cozy underground jazz venue.
Users can:
- Explore a virtual jazz bar environment
- Discover different jazz moods and atmospheres
- Listen to curated jazz music
- Interact with a visually rich, atmospheric interface
- Experience jazz culture through a digital space rather than a traditional music player
The goal is not only to play music, but to create a place where users can relax, explore, and connect with jazz emotionally.
How we built it
We built wandjazzbar as a modern web experience combining visual design, interactive interfaces, and music experiences.
Technology stack:
- Frontend: React / modern web technologies
- Deployment: Vercel
- UI Design: Custom-designed immersive interface inspired by jazz clubs, vinyl culture, and modern digital art
- Audio Experience: Integrated music playback and atmosphere-driven interactions
- Animation: Web-based transitions and visual effects to enhance immersion
The design process focused on translating physical jazz bar elements — lights, records, instruments, and mood — into a digital environment.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing functionality and atmosphere.
Unlike a normal music application, the core difficulty was creating an emotional experience:
- How to make a website feel like a real place
- How to transform static UI into an immersive environment
- How to maintain performance while using rich visuals and animations
- How to design interactions that feel natural instead of just functional
Another challenge was capturing the spirit of jazz itself — something spontaneous, human, and imperfect — within a structured digital interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that wandjazzbar became more than a music player.
We created:
- A unique digital space with its own identity
- An immersive experience combining design and sound
- A web environment that encourages exploration rather than simple consumption
- A creative interpretation of how music spaces can exist online
The project demonstrates how technology can preserve the feeling of physical spaces and transform them into new digital experiences.
What we learned
Through building wandjazzbar, we learned that great digital experiences are not only about features — they are about emotions.
We learned:
- Atmosphere and storytelling are essential parts of product design
- Visual design can influence how users perceive sound
- Small interactions can create a stronger sense of presence
- Building a digital "place" requires thinking beyond traditional app structures
The project helped us explore the intersection between technology, music, and human experience.
What's next for wandjazzbar
We hope to continue evolving wandjazzbar into a richer digital music world.
Future possibilities include:
- AI-powered jazz recommendations based on user mood
- Interactive virtual musicians and performances
- More personalized jazz rooms
- Community features for sharing playlists and discoveries
- Real-time collaborative music experiences
Our vision is to build a place where anyone can step into their own jazz moment — anytime, anywhere.
