Inspiration

Inspired by my peers and their frustrations with the job seeking market, we decided to embark on this application.

What it does

Other than allowing for applying for jobs and tracking application status: -It allows for easy profile generation via resume parsing so that keywords are extracted onto the user's profile without any cumbersome tests. These keywords can be modified. -Easy job matching and filtering via job compatibility, calculated based on matching keywords, allowing for a user to see at a glance how suitable they are for that job. -Allows for self-improvement roadmaps through courses recommended based on the missing skills required from a job. -Ease of networking using QR codes to disperse job information during events, in which the user can see how suited they are for that job as stated above.

How we built it

We started by narrowing down scope and users, then studying them to ascertain their pain points and their limitations. While coding the app, we took a break every so often to discuss the larger points at hand and whether we are achieving that goal.

Challenges we ran into

Data standardization and deciding on a data paradigm. Working with a new Framework that we barely have experience with. Hosting online without payment. Moving too fast leading to sub-par coding practices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Rebuilding the application from the ground up multiple times due to scope changes. Dealing with the datasets and APIs was challenging but ultimately fruitful.

What we learned

Move fast, Fail faster. Scope comes at a very heavy cost. Simple is king.

What's next for SkillSync

The employer role for more controllability over their applications, and new features to bridge the gap between the employer and jobseeker.
