Inspiration

Team formation is one of the most critical yet overlooked aspects of successful IT projects. We were inspired by the chaos of manually pairing people in hackathons and tech companies, where teams often lack balance or alignment. We envisioned an intelligent system that could automate team creation based on real data—skills, interests, and availability—making collaboration smoother and more effective from day one.

What it does

SkillSync AI matches users into high-performing teams by analysing their technical skillsets, project interests, and real-time availability. It provides each team a live collaboration room featuring chat, a task board, and visual insights into their skill composition. The system ensures that every team is well-rounded, diverse, and ready to execute on any IT project.

How we built it

We built the entire project using Bolt.new product by Bolt AI, which enabled us to rapidly prototype and deploy a full-stack app with a clean UI and real-time backend. We used React, Tailwind CSS, and Framer Motion for the frontend, and Supabase for authentication, database management, and real-time functionality. The app also features a custom team matchmaking logic to build optimal teams.

Challenges we ran into

A major challenge was debugging and resolving frontend issues, especially related to multi-skill selection and form state handling. We also had to carefully configure the Supabase schema and real-time updates to ensure chat and tasks worked without sync errors. Integrating all components seamlessly while preserving a clean UI required significant iteration and bug fixing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have created a fully functional, intelligent team-building app from scratch using Bolt.new. Despite initial UI and logic issues, we achieved real-time collaboration, clean authentication flows, and dynamic team formation. We also ensured the app runs smoothly across devices and scales for real-world use.

What we learned

We learned how powerful Bolt.new can be for accelerating full-stack development when combined with thoughtful database design and frontend logic. We also improved our debugging skills while working through unexpected frontend behaviour and state management bugs. Working with Supabase’s real-time tools gave us hands-on experience with WebSocket-based features in production.

What's next for SkillSync AI – Smart Team Builder for IT Projects

We plan to integrate GitHub and LinkedIn APIs to verify skills, add AI-powered suggestions for project roles, and expand the team room with features like whiteboarding and voice chat. We’ll also explore machine learning to improve matchmaking accuracy. As we refine it, we aim to launch SkillSync AI publicly — still proudly Built with Bolt.new.
