“Where skills swipe into careers.”

Inspiration: Job searching is often overwhelming due to fragmented information and unclear skill requirements. We noticed that swipe-based interfaces are highly engaging and intuitive, so we adapted this interaction pattern to career planning. By allowing users to swipe on skills and jobs, SkillSwipe transforms a traditionally complex process into an interactive and guided experience.

What it does: SkillSwipe enables users to swipe through job-required skills to understand their fit for a role, then generates a personalised roadmap to improve missing skills. As users progress, they can swipe through relevant jobs, save opportunities, and track their application statuses within a single platform.

How we built it: We built a swipe-based user interface to capture skill proficiency and paired it with a matching algorithm that compares user skills against structured job requirements. These outputs power a dynamic roadmap system with adjustable intensity levels and an integrated job and application tracking flow.

Challenges we ran into: Designing a skill assessment that was both simple and meaningful was challenging, as was creating roadmaps that could adapt to users with different goals, timelines, and learning capacities.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of: We transformed fragmented career information into a clear, action-oriented experience and built a system that shows users measurable progress toward real job opportunities instead of static recommendations.

What we learned: We learned how to design intuitive user flows for complex decision-making, integrate multiple datasets into a unified system, and balance technical feasibility with strong user experience design.

What’s next for SkillSwipe: Future work includes automating skill extraction from job descriptions using AI, expanding job coverage across industries, enhancing progress tracking with adaptive roadmap updates and making it more mobile-friendly.
