Inspiration
We wanted to strengthen Philadelphia’s community by letting people share skills, help each other, and be rewarded for being themselves. The idea was to create something that feels authentic to Philly culture while also showing how tech can bring communities closer.
What it does
Users post "jawns" (Philly lingo for tasks, favors, or anything really). Others can apply, complete them, and earn XP + $EAGLES tokens as recognition. The platform turns everyday skills into community value, making helping out not just useful but fun and rewarding.
How we built it
We started with wireframes and UI mockups to shape the experience, then built out a working prototype. The system combines a token-based rewards model, a JSON backend for simplicity, and our own custom blockchain currency to give it that wow factor.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges integrating blockchain with a standard webapp and syncing token logic between on-chain and off-chain systems. Another hurdle was designing a UI that feels approachable for anyone, even those who have never used crypto before, while still being functional under hackathon time pressure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Launching $EAGLES, our own Philly-inspired crypto token, and building a working prototype that feels fun, rewarding, and community-driven. We’re also proud of making the platform accessible in both English and Spanish, so more people across Philadelphia’s diverse communities can join in and feel represented.
What we learned
We learned how to bring an idea from wireframes to a working prototype, balancing design, backend logic, and user experience. Explored how to introduce tokens in a simple, approachable way, and saw the value of making SkillSwap inclusive with features like Spanish support.
What's next for SkillSwap
We’re starting local by onboarding real users in Philadelphia and testing SkillSwap within neighborhoods. We see SkillSwap growing into a platform where $EAGLES tokens can be redeemed for local perks, used in partnerships with small businesses, and eventually evolve into a nationwide network of skill-sharing communities.
