🌟 Inspiration The idea for SkillSwap was born from seeing how people in local communities have valuable skills but often lack easy, affordable ways to exchange them. With the rising cost of living, we wanted to create a platform that enables neighbors to help neighbors — no money required. We imagined a tool that builds stronger communities, fosters trust, and reduces dependency on cash transactions.
🤝 What it does SkillSwap is a web app where people can offer and request help — like tutoring, gardening, bike repairs, or language lessons.
Users post tasks or skills they can offer.
AI matches people for skill trades based on need and location.
Voice and video proposals make offers feel more personal (powered by ElevenLabs and Tavus).
Points are earned for each exchange, verified and stored on the Algorand blockchain (no money involved).
Points can be donated to local charities or reinvested in more exchanges.
Leaderboards and public profiles encourage participation and celebrate community heroes.
⚙ How we built it Bolt.new was our primary tool — we described what we wanted, and it helped generate most of the app’s structure without traditional coding.
We integrated Supabase for user authentication, profiles, and storing task data securely.
Algorand powers the trustless point system, ensuring fair and verifiable exchanges.
We used ElevenLabs to generate AI voice clips for task proposals, making it accessible and engaging.
Netlify hosts and deploys the production app with continuous integration from our Git repo.
🚧 Challenges we ran into Connecting multiple APIs (ElevenLabs, Algorand, Supabase) in a no/low-code environment like Bolt.new took creativity and persistence.
Designing fair and transparent point conversion on Algorand while keeping transactions lightweight.
Ensuring the voice feature didn’t slow down the app or overwhelm mobile users.
Balancing simplicity with enough features to make the app meaningful but not overwhelming.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of We created a fully functional platform that makes a real-world impact.
Our app lets people help one another without money — just skills, trust, and goodwill.
We successfully integrated blockchain for points + voice AI in a no-code environment.
The app is beginner-friendly but powerful, with a smooth user experience.
📚 What we learned Bolt.new is an incredible tool for accelerating development — but creative problem-solving is still essential when integrating advanced APIs.
Algorand’s blockchain can be used in lightweight, meaningful ways beyond crypto.
AI voice tech (like ElevenLabs) can make apps feel warmer and more human.
Building in public and sharing progress brings valuable feedback early on.
🚀 What’s next for SkillSwap Expand into mobile-first experience with push notifications for new matches.
Add a reputation system for users who consistently contribute.
Partner with local NGOs to allow direct point donations.
Translate the app into more languages to serve diverse communities.
Open up API so other apps can plug into our skill exchange network.
