Inspiration
Technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain is beginning to impact multiple industries such as healthcare and business. We participated in the Accounting Innovation Challenge to find out what are the difficulties faced in the business sector and how we can use technology to solve these issues.
What it does
We offer a web app platform to allow:
Supervisors/Managers: To evaluate and recommend workshops to employees based on the employees skill proficiency, portfolio and the needs of the companies.
Employees : Able to self-evaluate and assess themselves, and be given workshops best recommended for them to further enhance themselves.
How we built it
By depending on large data from the business sector, we integrated artificial intelligence into our solution. The AI is able to classify different classes of people and able to find out what best fits them. The input is gathered through a web application whereby employees and managers are able to utilize it to benefit themselves and the company. The application holds the data of the performance of each individual and their portfolio.
Challenges we ran into
With little to no information of how business is run and how audit is carried out, we struggled to come up with a sound solution. In our team, we lack crucial roles such as a designer or someone who has a background in business. Thus, we were limited to viewing the problem from a developer’s perspective.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We were able to integrate AI into our solution and managed to come up with a well designed web application that depicts our solution in detail. Other than that, we are delighted to have made some connections with the mentors and participants. They provided us with real life experiences of their expertise and invaluable advices.
What we learned
We gained many valuable insights in the business world. We’ve gotten a better understanding of what big/small businesses are lacking in and the issues that the business sector face such as possibility of lost talent due to automation and the lack of interest in accounting in the younger generations. The talks and mentorship had provided us a better understanding of how technology has disrupted the business sector and how the people are starting to adapt to this disruption. A key takeaway from one of the talks was “disrupt or be disrupted”.
What's next for SkillsMatchUp
- Statistics of proficiency of Employees skill-set
- Collaborative work with companies (workshop companies, IT companies, business companies) to test run and find area of improvement and redundancy
- We are able to depend on the large data of the employees to recommend different job opportunities for people with similar set of skills. For example, using the information that a designer worked in a healthcare firm before, machine learning algorithm can recommend other designers of similar profile that healthcare is a possible and viable option.
