Inspiration
-We as learners often don't have anyone to share our learning with. So we created a platform where we can find people who can provide them with skills even if amateur.
Last year when the lockdown started my dad's work phone stopped working. And with the onset of the pandemic there were no services open for the first couple of weeks. Like NONE! My dad had a hard time communicating and there were a lot of work arounds we had to do while we waited on the services to start. To add to this, the automobiles weren't being used and had been left sedimentry for a long time, and a lot of people had trouble getting to places during emergencies state like somebody wanting immediate medical service or grocery.
This made us realise that if we could have known about people in our very local communnity who had even amateur skills, it could have made our life a lot easier, well as easier as it gets during a lockdown anyway!
This is the story behind our project, to develop the local community so that they can come through to each other in any such emergencies and function better in a regular situation.
What it does
- Connects people who are interested in similar skills or are on the look to learn new skills from someone.
It provides a dashboard based on skills so that you can connect with people who are interested in them. Then you can either share your skill with someone or listen to them while they share theirs.
- The interests of the users are mapped based on their interest and they are connected with like-minded people.
How we built it
- We have built a Native Android app using Java and XML which is backed by Firebase. We have used Google maps SDK to connect to nearby users with similar interest and build a community
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating Google maps SDK and finding nearby users.
- Setting a Geo-fence by the user
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully integrated Maps SDK and authentication from scratch along with the UI/UX in a span of 36 hours. Yay!
