SkillSetu was inspired by the need to bridge the gap between skill development training and meaningful employment. While many candidates enroll in training programmes, complete assessments, and receive certificates, tracking their actual employment outcomes, job retention, and career growth remains a challenge. We wanted to create a solution that helps track what happens to candidates after training and ensures that skill development leads to real opportunities.

What it does

SkillSetu is a skill development outcome tracking platform designed to connect training, certification, and employment data in one place. It provides a dashboard to monitor candidates' training progress, employment status, self-employment, further education, and career outcomes. It also helps administrators analyse placement trends and identify gaps in skill development programmes.

How we built it

We developed a web-based prototype with a simple, user-friendly interface and role-based access for candidates and administrators. The platform includes a dashboard, training details, employment status tracking, and dedicated sections for employment and self-employment information. Our focus was on creating a structured system that makes outcome tracking easier and helps transform candidate data into useful insights.

Challenges we faced

One of our main challenges was designing a system that could track candidates beyond course completion and certification. Employment status can change over time, contact information may become outdated, and collecting reliable follow-up data can be difficult. We addressed these challenges by designing structured follow-up workflows and an approach focused on consistent records, employment updates, and meaningful outcome analysis.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to translate a real-world public-sector problem into a practical technology solution. We improved our understanding of dashboard design, web development, data organisation, user workflows, and outcome-based monitoring. We also realised that technology can play an important role in making skill development programmes more transparent, measurable, and effective.

What's next for SkillSetu

Our future plans include integrating secure and consent-based candidate records, automated follow-up reminders, employer-verified employment updates, and analytics for placement rates, job retention, wage progression, and training effectiveness. Our vision is to help decision-makers understand the real impact of skill development programmes and enable candidates to move towards sustainable employment and career growth.
