🌟 Inspiration

Many people in rural areas—especially women and youth—possess valuable skills but lack access to job opportunities near their locality. With limited platforms to showcase these skills, they often remain unemployed or underpaid. We were inspired to build SkillSetGo to bridge this gap. By creating a local job portal tailored for rural users, we aim to help them find meaningful work, earn a stable income, and even grow into small entrepreneurs.

💼 What it Does

SkillSetGo is a job portal that:

  • Helps users find jobs like housemaid, tailor, caretaker, sweeper, labour, etc. near their location.
  • Allows people to register and list the services they can offer.
  • Empowers women to earn from home using their skills.
  • Helps students and youth find part-time local work while continuing their studies.
  • Connects skill with demand in the local community.

🛠️ How We Built It

  • Frontend: Built with React and styled using Tailwind CSS for a mobile-first, responsive UI.
  • UI Library: We used shadcn/ui to ensure a professional and accessible user interface.
  • Backend: Powered by Firebase for authentication, real-time database, and hosting.
  • Data Management: Job and skill listings are stored and fetched from Firebase for live updates.
  • Color Theme: We used a rural-friendly palette with warm, soft tones to keep the UI clean and welcoming.

🚧 Challenges We Ran Into

  • Designing a simple interface for users with limited digital experience.
  • Ensuring job filters work effectively to match users with local listings.
  • Managing user data securely with Firebase authentication.
  • Balancing clean design with functionality on slower mobile networks.
