Inspiration
Being year 1 undergraduate students of NUS, we lack the avenue to apply our newly acquired skills from school. We chose to create a mobile application for our very first hackathon to challenge ourselves and gain some experience in mobile application development. We decided to create a gig sourcing platform as we were facing difficulties in getting an internship to gain working experience.
What it does
This mobile application bridges the gap between freelancers and clients by providing a platform to exchange services.
How we built it
The application's front-end is built using flutter and the back-end utilises firebase for user authentication and storage of user data.
Challenges we ran into
Being complete beginners in flutter and firebase, we took a while to get used to the syntax and inner workings of the framework.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Within the 24 hours of hacking, we were able to build a rather functional app from the ground up. We were able to implement basic CRUD operations for our mobile app.
What we learned
We learned to apply programming principles taught to us by our profs.
What's next for SkillSearch
More can be done to improve SkillSearch, examples include search engine implementation and customisable user interface components so users can modify their user experience to their own liking.
