Project Story Inspiration

I noticed that students often learn many things but do not have a simple way to practise those skills, track their improvement, or show what they can actually do. I created SkillProof to make skill development more practical and accessible, especially for learners who may not have access to expensive tuition or extra coaching.

What it does

SkillProof is an AI-powered skill development platform where learners can:

Set learning goals Track different skills and progress Follow personalized learning paths Complete practical missions Practise through AI-generated questions Get guidance from an AI Mentor Access free learning resources Build a Skill Passport to show their progress and achievements How I built it

I built the frontend using React and Vite and the backend using Node.js and Express. MongoDB is used for storing user data, and JWT is used for authentication. I integrated Google Gemini for the AI Mentor and AI-powered practice features.

I focused on creating a simple interface where learning, practice, progress tracking, and proof of skills are connected in one platform.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge was connecting all the different parts of the application and making them work together reliably. I worked through issues with frontend-backend communication, MongoDB connectivity, authentication, AI API integration, and handling AI responses.

I also had to make sure the platform remained simple enough for different types of learners while supporting many different skills.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that I turned the idea into a working platform instead of just a concept. SkillProof combines learning, practical missions, AI guidance, practice, free resources, progress tracking, and a Skill Passport in one application.

I am especially proud of integrating AI as part of the learning experience rather than using it only as an additional feature.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned how to connect React, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, authentication, and Gemini AI into a complete application.

I also learned that solving an education problem requires more than adding features. The platform needs to make the learner's journey clear, practical, and easy to follow.
