Inspiration

The spark for Skill Orbit came from personal observation. I watched a close friend struggle to launch a business; he was "idea-rich but money-poor," lacking the necessary guidance and capital to start. Simultaneously, I saw his father’s established business in a remote, underserved area stagnate simply because it lacked access to modern IT support and networks. I realised there was a massive disconnect between talent and opportunity, which drove me to build a bridge between them.

What it does

Skill Orbit is a holistic support ecosystem for first-time entrepreneurs and local businesses. For Founders: It connects aspiring entrepreneurs who lack funds with investors looking for fresh, innovative ideas. For Local Businesses: It provides essential support and digital visibility to businesses in remote areas that are often overlooked. The Goal: To democratize access to entrepreneurship, ensuring that geography and initial capital are no longer barriers to success.

How we built it

We utilised Base44 to architect and deploy the application. Base44 was instrumental in helping us rapidly prototype the marketplace features and user management systems. It allowed us to focus on the business logic—connecting investors to founders—without getting bogged down in complex backend infrastructure, significantly speeding up our development cycle.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was creating a unified user experience for two very different demographics: tech-savvy investors and traditional business owners from remote areas. Balancing sophisticated investment tracking features with an accessible, simple interface for local business owners required multiple design iterations and a deep focus on inclusivity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of shipping a functional platform that addresses a real-world socio-economic gap. Successfully creating a dual-sided marketplace using Base44. Designing a workflow that creates genuine value for underserved communities. Moving from a concept based on a friend's struggle to a live solution that can help others in his position.

What we learned

We learned that accessibility is key. Great technology is useless if the people who need it most (rural business owners) cannot use it. We also discovered the power of rapid application development; using the right tools like Base44 allowed us to translate a complex social mission into a working product much faster than traditional coding methods would have allowed.

What's next for SkillOrbit

We aim to integrate AI-driven matching to pair investors with founders based on risk appetite and industry interest. We also plan to expand our "Local Support" module to include educational resources specifically tailored for digitising rural businesses, eventually rolling out a mobile-first version to reach users with limited desktop access.
