Inspiration
We have all been in a position where we wanted to learn a new skill but got stuck trying to understand a book or wrap our mind around some documentation. The best way to get over these troubles is by simply asking an expert. Unfortunately, if you don't personally know an expert, your only recourse is to pay for a tutor which is often times unfeasible. That is where SkillMatch comes in.
What it does
SkillMatch allows university students with various unique skills to connect and teach each other their unique skill. For example, if Alice is really good at coding and Bob cooks an insanely good omelette, they can find each other on SkillMatch and have the chance to teach each other their unique skills. This way, Alice gets to learn how to make a great omlette and Bob gets to learn how to code for absolutely no cost at all.
How we built it
This is a website built using HTML, CSS and Javascript
Challenges we ran into
We initially tried to build our website in django but we ran into trouble syncing our databases and trying to upload static files so we decided to pivot to a more classical website approach
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that the graphics design is an absolute work of art and that the website is extremely fast and responsive.
What's next for SkillMatch
Up next, we need to finalize the backend to allow for higher scalability, we need to implement a machine learning matching algorithm using natural language processing in order to help people connect to the people they really want to connect to.
