The idea for SkillMap Engine didn't come from a boardroom or a textbook; it started in the trenches of my own journey. As I navigated my studies in Data Science and experimented with my own "vibe coding" workflows, I realized a recurring frustration: the gap between what a resume says and what a person can actually do. I saw so many talented peers getting filtered out by archaic testing systems that only look at keywords, not at the actual cognitive process of solving a problem. I wanted to build something that could see the "invisible" work—the way a developer refactors code under pressure or how a product manager pivots through a scenario.

Building this project was a dive into the deep end of full-stack engineering. I chose a zero-database, single-folder architecture because I wanted to prove that you don't need heavy, complex infrastructure to deliver high-level intelligence. I built the frontend with React and Vite for that snappy, instantaneous feel, and integrated the Monaco Editor to give users a professional-grade environment. The real "aha!" moment was connecting the AWS Bedrock (Amazon Nova) engine; teaching an LLM to interpret raw keystroke telemetry into a structured career roadmap was a challenge that pushed my prompt engineering skills to the limit.

The biggest hurdle I faced was the telemetry engine itself. Balancing granular tracking—monitoring every backspace and pause—without turning the UI into a resource-heavy mess was difficult. I had to learn how to keep the background listeners lightweight so they wouldn't interfere with the user's "flow state." There were nights where the data streams looked like noise, and I had to iterate repeatedly on how I fed that data to the AI so the insights remained accurate and actionable.

What I learned throughout this process was profound. I learned that performance is a language of its own. By focusing on behavioral indicators, I realized that I wasn't just building a tool; I was building a mirror that helps professionals see their own work habits clearly. This project forced me to master the synergy between frontend performance, intelligent data processing, and user experience. SkillMap Engine is my answer to the "black box" of hiring—it’s about replacing outdated filters with clear, performance-based alignment.
