SkillIssue: A Skill Exchange Platform
Inspiration
Many people have valuable skills but lack disposable income. Whether they're students, gig workers, or individuals facing financial hardship, they often struggle to access the services they need. SkillIssue provides a solution by allowing users to exchange skills instead of money, making personal and professional growth more accessible to everyone.
What It Does
Rather than being limited by financial constraints, users can trade value for value offering their expertise in one area in exchange for learning or receiving help in another. This fosters continuous growth, expands skill sets, and builds a supportive community of lifelong learners.
How We Built It
After attending the Gadget workshop, we decided to build our platform using:
- Gadget for backend development
- TypeScript for strong-typed logic
- PostgreSQL for database management
- React, Tailwind CSS, and ShadCN UI for a sleek, responsive frontend
- Gemini AI for intelligent skill-matching and recommendations
Challenges We Ran Into
- Understanding the Gadget ecosystem and adapting to its workflow.
- Gemini API Rate limit
- Authentication bugs that would tank our platform
