Inspiration

Millions of learners want to gain real-world skills but are stuck in the cycle of watching tutorials and building to-do apps. On the other hand, professionals in medicine, business, and education have real challenges — but don’t know how to build tech solutions.

SkillForge was inspired by this gap. We wanted to connect learners with purpose — and help domain experts turn problems into collaborative projects.

“Why can't learning feel like building a real startup — with mentorship, teamwork, and portfolio proof?”

What it does

SkillForge is a smart, AI-powered platform where learners:

  • 🎯 Set a learning goal and get a personalized, step-by-step Roadmap
  • 📚 Instantly generate revision notes and summaries on any topic
  • 🤖 Use a Study Assistant to ask questions and practice with AI-powered mock interviews
  • 🤝 Collaborate with others by solving real-world problems on a public problem board
  • 💼 Build a live portfolio from real contributions — with task tracking and public proof

It’s like Duolingo + GitHub + Notion for people who want to learn by doing.

How we built it

  • Designed and developed the UI using Bolt.new
  • Used Supabase for real-time data, authentication, and team access control
  • Integrated Tavus to simulate realistic mock interviews with AI avatars
  • Created custom AI prompt flows for:
    • Goal-based roadmap generation
    • Smart study notes
    • Concept explanations and code walkthroughs
    • Breaking real-world problems into tasks
  • Built a collaborative frontend with drag-and-drop task board and AI input overlays
  • Deployed using Netlify for rapid iteration and scalability

Challenges we ran into

  • 🎯 Designing a smooth UX that blends a roadmap planner with a project tracker
  • ⚙️ Making AI tools feel intuitive and purposeful instead of gimmicky
  • 🔐 Managing user roles, ownership, and real-time access securely with Supabase RLS
  • 🧠 Writing useful, on-topic prompts that truly help learners make career progress
  • ⏱️ Shipping a functional product fast within the Bolt Hackathon timeline

What we learned

  • How to work fast and smart using Bolt.new's frontend builder
  • Hands-on with Supabase Edge Functions, subscriptions, and security rules
  • Real-world application of Tavus CVI for lifelike AI mock interviews
  • A deeper understanding of how learners engage with AI and project-based tools
  • How crucial problem-based learning is for building real skills

Why am I eligible?

✅ Conversational AI Video Challenge — Tavus

We used Tavus to power mock interview sessions, simulating real video interviewers that users can interact with. This adds an emotionally engaging, realistic layer to our Study Assistant — a perfect fit for the Conversational AI Video Challenge. It’s not just a gimmick — it’s a core feature with high user value.

✅ Startup Challenge — Supabase

We used Supabase as the backbone of our backend: handling real-time updates, role-based access control, secure portfolios, and edge function triggers. We implemented RLS and scalable team-based collaboration — showcasing SkillForge's potential to scale like a real startup.

✅ Deploy Challenge — Netlify

Our project is deployed and continuously integrated with Netlify, giving us instant iteration, smooth hosting, and a production-ready experience. The DevOps pipeline is clean and reliable.

Bonus Award Fit

🔥 Future Unicorn

We’re building the GitHub + Duolingo for real-world learners. A strong market fit with viral potential.

🧠 Creative Use of AI

AI is used in 4 key places: roadmap generation, concept revision, mock interviews, and project breakdowns — all tailored to the user’s goals.

🎯 Sharpest Problem Fit

We directly solve two major problems:

  1. Learners without portfolio proof
  2. Experts with unsolved problems
    SkillForge connects them through collaboration.

💡 Uniquely Useful Tool

People always say “build real projects.” We made a platform that turns that advice into a system — auto-portfolio + real-world challenges.

✨ Most Beautiful UI

We designed SkillForge with clean cards, drag-and-drop boards, soft animations, and adaptive UI — using Bolt.new’s design-first development model.
