SkillForge AI
Inspiration
As students preparing for internships and placements, we realized that career preparation is scattered across multiple platforms. We use one website for resumes, another for interview practice, another for roadmaps, and another for learning resources. This makes the preparation process confusing and time-consuming.
We wanted to build a single platform that could guide students throughout their placement journey. That idea became SkillForge AI—an AI-powered platform that helps students understand where they stand, what they need to improve, and how to prepare for their dream company.
What it does
SkillForge AI helps students prepare for placements by combining multiple tools into one platform.
Some of the main features include:
- AI Resume Analysis with ATS score
- Personalized career roadmap
- AI mock interviews with feedback
- Company readiness analysis
- Skill gap identification
- Project recommendations based on career goals
- Progress dashboard to track improvement
Instead of switching between different websites, students can prepare for placements from a single dashboard.
How we built it
We built the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a clean and responsive user interface.
The backend is developed using Node.js and Express.js. We used Firebase Authentication for secure login, Firestore for storing user data, and Firebase Storage for uploaded resumes.
For AI features, we integrated the Google Gemini API to analyze resumes, generate personalized roadmaps, provide interview feedback, and recommend projects.
We also used PDF.js and Mammoth.js to extract text from uploaded PDF and DOCX resumes before sending them to the AI model.
Challenges we faced
One of the biggest challenges was extracting resume content accurately from different file formats. Another challenge was writing effective prompts so that the AI generated useful and consistent career guidance.
We also spent time improving the user interface to make the platform simple and easy to navigate while integrating multiple AI-powered features into one application.
What we learned
This project helped us improve our full-stack development skills and understand how AI can solve real-world problems.
We learned how to build REST APIs, work with Firebase services, integrate AI models, process uploaded documents, and design a user-friendly dashboard.
Most importantly, we learned that building a useful product is not just about adding features—it's about solving a real problem in a simple and effective way.
What's next
We plan to continue improving SkillForge AI by adding features such as GitHub profile analysis, voice-based mock interviews, placement probability prediction, AI recruiter simulation, and more personalized career recommendations.
Our goal is to make SkillForge AI a reliable career companion that supports students from their first resume to their first job.
