Inspiration

We built SkillBridge to help skilled workers turn spoken experience into a digital profile without needing to type long forms or know how to write a resume. The idea came from seeing how much talent stays offline because the tools to represent it are too complicated.

What it does

SkillBridge records a worker’s voice, converts it into text, extracts skills and experience, builds a professional profile, and matches the user with relevant job opportunities. It also creates shareable profile links so workers can send their details directly to employers.

How we built it

We built the frontend in React and Vite, and the backend in FastAPI with Python. We used Supabase for authentication and database storage, AI APIs for transcription and skill extraction, and external job sources to power job matching. The app was deployed with Vercel and Render.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was turning informal spoken descriptions into structured profile data. Another was making job matching work across inconsistent job sources. We also spent time improving reliability, error handling, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness so the product would feel usable in real-world conditions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that SkillBridge turns voice into a usable professional profile in a few steps. We also built a full end-to-end flow with authentication, profile sharing, job matching, testing, and production deployment. The final result feels practical, not just experimental.

What we learned

We learned how important prompt design, validation, and fallback handling are when building AI products. We also learned that good AI is not only about the model, but about the entire user experience around it: input, output, trust, and usability.

What's next for SkillBridge

Next, we want to add multilingual support, better job recommendations, employer-side tools, profile editing by voice, and resume export. We also want to improve verification and make the platform even more useful for workers in more regions and job categories.
