About the Project
Inspiration
Creating a strong resume is difficult, especially for students and beginners who do not know what recruiters or Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are looking for. A resume can contain good skills and projects but still get overlooked because of poor structure, missing keywords, or weak descriptions.
We wanted to build a simple tool that helps people understand how well their resume matches a job and how they can improve it instead of simply telling them whether their resume is good or bad.
What We Built
Resume Analyzer is an AI-powered resume analysis platform that helps users evaluate and improve their resumes.
Users can upload their resume and receive an analysis of important areas such as:
- ATS compatibility
- Skills and keywords
- Resume structure
- Missing or weak information
- Project and experience descriptions
- Job-role relevance
- Overall resume score
- Actionable improvement suggestions
The goal is to turn a resume from a static document into a personal career improvement tool.
How We Built It
We built the application using Python and Streamlit, creating an interactive web interface where users can upload their resumes and receive analysis.
The system processes the uploaded resume, extracts relevant information, analyzes its content, identifies important skills and keywords, and generates useful recommendations.
The project combines traditional text processing with AI-assisted analysis to make the results easier for users to understand and act on.
What We Learned
While building the project, we learned how to:
- Process and extract information from real-world resumes
- Design an effective resume-analysis workflow
- Build interactive applications with Streamlit
- Apply AI to practical career-related problems
- Improve the quality and usefulness of generated recommendations
- Handle different resume formats and structures
- Think about user experience when presenting technical analysis
One of the biggest lessons was that a useful AI application is not just about generating an answer. It is about turning the output into clear, actionable information that solves a real user problem.
Challenges We Faced
One of the biggest challenges was that resumes are highly inconsistent. Different users use different layouts, headings, formats, and writing styles. Extracting meaningful information while keeping the analysis reliable required careful processing.
Another challenge was avoiding generic recommendations. Instead of simply saying "add more skills" or "improve your resume," we focused on providing specific suggestions based on the content of the uploaded resume.
We also had to think carefully about how to present multiple analysis results without overwhelming the user.
Why It Matters
Students and job seekers often apply to many positions without knowing why their applications are being rejected. Resume Analyzer gives them a way to identify weaknesses before applying.
Our vision is to expand the project beyond resume analysis into a complete AI career assistant that can help users discover suitable jobs, identify skill gaps, improve their resumes, prepare for interviews, and become more confident in their job search.
Resume Analyzer is built around one simple idea: help people turn their existing experience into better opportunities.
