SkillBridge — AI Job Skill Gap Finder

Inspiration

We saw so many job seekers spending months preparing for roles without knowing exactly which skills matter most for their target job. Most online learning resources are generic and don’t prioritize based on individual gaps. This inspired us to build SkillBridge — a tool that bridges the gap between your current skills and your career goals in the shortest possible time.

What it does

SkillBridge instantly: Analyzes your current skills and resume. Compares them with industry-standard skill requirements for your chosen role. Highlights missing skills. Generates a personalized 30-day microlearning plan with free resources. Provides real-world success stories for motivation.

How we built it

Data Gathering – Collected role-specific skill data from job postings, professional networks, and open datasets. Skill Gap Detection – Implemented NLP-based matching to compare user-provided skills with role requirements. Prioritization Algorithm – Ranked missing skills based on frequency in job postings and industry relevance. Learning Plan Generator – Created an automated plan that breaks learning into daily, focused tasks. Frontend – Built an interactive UI using Streamlit for instant results. Backend – Used Python, pandas, and scikit-learn for data processing; hosted via cloud deployment.

Challenges we ran into

Mapping vague skill names from resumes to standardized skill sets. Ensuring the microplan stayed practical and not overwhelming. Creating engaging real-world stories for 20+ different roles. Managing data inconsistencies from various job listing sources.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a fully working prototype in a short timeframe. Automated skill-gap analysis for 20 different career roles. Created a dynamic story engine that changes based on the chosen role. Received positive feedback from early testers who said it’s exactly what they needed.

What we learned
