Inspiration
Most PDF tools focus on editing pages, but job seekers need help completing a larger mission: turning their existing experience into a credible, tailored application without inventing qualifications. Verdant was inspired by the need for a trustworthy document agent that preserves each candidate’s identity and evidence.
What it does
Verdant allows users to upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT résumé, add verified information, provide a target role, and select from hundreds of résumé and cover-letter styles. It extracts the supplied information, organizes experience from most recent to oldest, orders education from highest to lowest, and excludes unsupported claims. Users review proposed changes before downloading the final document as a PDF.
How I built it
I built Verdant with React, TypeScript, Vinext, Vite, PDF.js, Mammoth, jsPDF, html2canvas, and Cloudflare Workers. Codex and GPT-5.6 supported the development process by helping translate product requirements into working components, improve document-parsing logic, debug deployment failures, refine templates, and test the evidence-grounded résumé workflow.
Challenges
The greatest challenge was extracting reliable information from résumés with different layouts, columns, headings, and date formats. Deploying a Vinext application outside its original hosting environment also required resolving Worker configuration, CSS processing, routing, and build issues.
What I learned
I learned that trustworthy document automation requires more than attractive templates. It needs traceable source information, explicit approval, careful handling of missing facts, predictable section ordering, and outputs that remain useful after download.
What’s next
I plan to expand Verdant with deeper document understanding, additional file conversions, stronger layout preservation, collaborative review, electronic signatures, and more high-stakes document missions beyond résumés.
