Inspiration The widening gap between academic learning and industry expectations inspired us to create Skill Bridge AI. Many individuals lack access to personalized guidance and real-time feedback, which affects their career progress. We aimed to bridge this gap using AI-powered tools to support targeted skill development and structured mentorship.
What it does Skill Bridge AI is an AI-driven career mentorship platform that identifies skill gaps through adaptive quizzes, recommends personalized learning content using real-time web scraping, and connects users with suitable mentors based on their career track and proficiency level. It tracks progress continuously and guides learners through structured upskilling paths.
How we built it We built the frontend using React.js for a responsive UI with React Router and state hooks for seamless interaction. The backend was developed using Python Flask and Fast API to handle API logic. MongoDB was used to store user data, test scores, and learning progress. The Gemini AI API was integrated to generate skill assessment quizzes, while Selenium-based web scraping dynamically fetched relevant video tutorials. Mentor matching was enabled through the Way to School platform.
Challenges we ran into Integrating multiple systems like AI APIs, web scraping, and real-time mentor connections posed significant synchronization challenges. Ensuring dynamic quiz adaptation, maintaining smooth frontend-backend interaction, and optimizing performance for fast response times also required extensive debugging and testing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully built an end-to-end system that not only identifies a learner's strengths and weaknesses but also provides actionable learning paths and human support through mentorship. The seamless integration of AI, scraping, and user experience features stands out as a major milestone.
What we learned We deepened our understanding of full-stack development, real-time API integration, database design, and the practical applications of AI in education. We also learned how to handle web scraping responsibly and optimize performance across system components.
What's next for Skill Bridge AI We plan to introduce adaptive learning paths with increasing difficulty, real-time mentor chats, gamification elements to boost engagement, and a mobile-friendly version for wider accessibility. We also aim to expand mentor availability across more career tracks and integrate voice-based learning support.
