Inspiration

In many communities, skilled workers such as electricians, plumbers, mechanics, painters, and tailors struggle to find customers even though people need their services every day. Most jobs still come through word of mouth, making it difficult for workers to grow their businesses and for customers to find trusted professionals quickly.

We built SkillBridge to connect local skilled workers with people who need their services while using AI to make finding the right professional faster and easier.

What it does

SkillBridge is an AI-powered platform that connects skilled workers with customers in their local communities.

Users can search for services, describe their problems, and receive AI-powered recommendations for the most suitable professionals. Workers can create profiles, showcase their skills, receive ratings, and connect directly with customers.

Our goal is to make it easier for communities to find trusted services while creating more job opportunities for skilled workers.

How we built it

We built SkillBridge as a modern web application using Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Firebase, and Google Maps. Gemini AI helps users describe their problems and recommends the most suitable professionals based on their needs. Firebase manages authentication and stores user and worker information, while Google Maps helps users discover nearby service providers.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was designing an experience that works for both customers and skilled workers. We also had to think carefully about how AI could provide useful recommendations without making the platform complicated. Another challenge was organizing worker profiles and location-based services in a way that makes searching fast and simple.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a solution that addresses a real community problem. Instead of simply listing workers, SkillBridge uses AI to help users quickly find the right professional for their needs. We're also proud that the platform supports local businesses, creates more opportunities for skilled workers, and makes trusted services easier to access.

What we learned

Building SkillBridge taught us that technology has the greatest impact when it solves everyday problems. We learned how to integrate AI with modern web technologies, design user-friendly experiences, and build solutions that support both businesses and local communities.

What's next for SkillBridge

We plan to expand SkillBridge with online booking, secure payments, real-time job tracking, AI-powered pricing suggestions, worker verification, multilingual support, and a mobile app. Our long-term vision is to become the go-to platform where people can easily find trusted skilled workers while helping local professionals grow their businesses.
