🧠 About the Project — SkillTrust

💡 Inspiration

The idea for SkillTrust came from a simple but persistent problem: skills are hard to trust online. Resumes can be exaggerated, certificates can be forged, and platforms often rely on centralized verification that doesn’t scale globally. We wanted a system where skills could be verified once and trusted everywhere, without relying on passwords, databases, or intermediaries.

Blockchain and verifiable credentials offered a clean answer: cryptographic truth instead of claims.

🏗️ How We Built It

SkillTrust is a wallet-first, passwordless skill verification platform.

  • Smart Contract (Solidity)
A minimal Solidity contract stores only the hash of a credential on-chain, ensuring immutability and privacy.

  • Backend (Node.js + Express)
The backend verifies wallet signatures, ensures issuer-only credential issuance, uploads credential data to IPFS via Pinata, and commits the credential hash on-chain.

  • Frontend (Next.js + React)
A clean Pages Router–based frontend allows:

    • Skill holders to request credentials
    • Issuers to issue credentials using wallet signatures
    • Public users to verify credentials instantly
  • Storage & Hashing
Credential data is stored off-chain on IPFS.
    Integrity is guaranteed using:
