Inspiration

Our project was inspired by the growing gap between different generations. Teenagers are often good at technologies, but miss out on traditional knowledge, such as sewing and gardening. Meanwhile, older generations have wisdom, but sometimes feel disconnected to the digital world. So we asked ourselves: what if there was a website were both could share skills equally. That is how our idea of SkillNest was born.

What it does

SkillNest is a platform that connects different generations by letting people people, share their skills, and learn from each other. Teenagers can offer digital and tech help, or language skills. Older generations can share their traditional knowledge: cooking, sewing, or life lessons. We created an environment were anyone can both, teach and learn, helping each other to become better!

How we built it

We started by discussing the gap between teenagers, who are strong in technology, and older generations, who have a lot of traditional knowledge. From there, we began shaping the idea of SkillNest and sketched out what the platform should look like. We designed simple wireframes for the homepage and profiles, then built a website prototype, where anyone could share skills and exchange knowledge. Along the way, we tested different layouts and sign-up flows to make sure the concept was clear and easy to use, even if we couldn’t include every feature in this first version.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we had was a very small amount of time as we needed to turn a big idea into something simple and clear in just a short period. There was a lot of pressure because we had to combine school, homework, hobbies, and creating our website. It was also difficult to decide which features to focus on first, since we couldn’t build everything we imagined.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we managed to turn our big idea into a full-working website prototype in such a short time because it was very difficult to combine all thoughts in one site. We also like that SkillNest reflects our goal of connecting different generations and shows how both technology and traditional knowledge can be shared in one place.

What we learned

We learned how to take an idea from scratch and actually build it into something real. It showed us that even a small team can create a working prototype if we focus and share tasks. We also learned how important it is to think about different users, both teenagers and older people, so the design stays clear, simple, and welcoming.

What's next for Skill Nest

Our next step is better advertisement, better connections, security and support for our members!
