Inspiration

Every year, millions of students and professionals feel unprepared for interviews—especially in non-tech fields where resources are weak. I kept hearing the same fear from people around me: “I don’t know what questions they’ll ask.” When I realized real mock interviews cost $80–$400/hr and affordable tools were generic, I knew there had to be a better way. That became SkillBridge.

What it does

SkillBridge is a two-sided marketplace that connects job candidates with real working professionals for structured, affordable mock interviews. Candidates get industry-specific practice. Professionals earn flexible side income. We also offer free peer-to-peer mock interviews and a community Q&A hub to attract early users.

How we built it

SkillBridge is built using React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Supabase. I focused first on the core marketplace flow—mentor profiles, booking interactions, and onboarding—while keeping the design simple and fast. The foundation is deployed on Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

Building a marketplace with two distinct user types under intense time pressure

Designing a clean UX without bloated features

Validating whether users actually wanted this product before writing too much code

Technical constraints while trying to build quickly and pitch at the same time

Accomplishments we’re proud of

Validated demand with 32 real interviews across healthcare, education, business, and tech

Every single person said SkillBridge is something they wish existed

Several professionals expressed written intent to run paid mock interviews

Built and deployed the MVP experience in under a week

Created a clear go-to-market strategy and roadmap based on real feedback

What we learned

Talk to users first—build second

People desperately want industry-specific prep, not generic advice

Professionals are surprisingly eager to coach if the platform makes it easy

The simplest version of a feature often reveals the most insight

Real feedback beats assumptions every time

What’s next for SkillBridge

Launching to the first waiting list of students and professionals

Manually coordinating the first mock interviews to learn fast and refine quality

Expanding into more fields: healthcare, business, education, hospitality

Adding session rating systems, integrated video, and automated scheduling

Growing the community knowledge base with real interview questions
