Inspiration
I have a skincare routine and when I try new products, sometimes I'm not sure if it's really working or if it's just a placebo effect. Rather than relying solely on qualitative data, using YouCam's AI Skin Analysis gives me quantitative data that can actually tell me if my skin has changed. In addition, I've always had a hard time looking for skincare products because I have to manually dig through social media sites to find information about it, and often times it's not very indicative of how good it is. I wanted a centralized aggregate of skincare trials so that I could easily research for myself.
What it does
It's a skincare tracker that analyzes your skin condition throughout a trial. These trials can then be made available to the public so that others can see how it affected your skin. Users searching for products can find others who've tried it and what routines it's been incorporated into.
How we built it
It's built as a web app using Next.js and Neon Postgres, with OAuth handling authentication. This makes it easier to develop for both a mobile and desktop experience.
Challenges we ran into
Initially the plan was to analyze the skin everyday but it used too many credits which made the app unsustainable in the long term. Also had issues with the camera being too sensitive which required me to implement a native camera solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even if there aren't many users, it's still a very good tool for personal use because there are products that I want to try.
What's next for Grapht
I'd like to add skincare product recommendation based on your skin type as well as matching similar skin type users' routines so that you can see what they've tried.
