Inspiration
The inspiration for SkibidiNotes came from a simple observation: many students – including myself and my peers – struggle to stay focused and motivated when it comes to revising. We’re living in an age where short-form, visually stimulating content dominates our attention spans, yet the tools we use for learning haven’t evolved to match that shift.
We noticed that while students spend hours consuming content like TikTok or YouTube Shorts, they find it hard to sit through even ten minutes of reading their notes. This raised a question: What if studying could feel as effortless and engaging as scrolling social media?
What it does
SkibidiNotes transforms traditional revision into an interactive, scroll-worthy experience. Users simply upload their notes, and the platform uses AI to summarise the content into clear, bite-sized points. These summaries are then presented over short-form gameplay or visually engaging videos, paired with AI-generated voiceovers to reinforce auditory learning. Finally, students are prompted with quick quizzes to test their understanding and retention – making studying feel more like watching a TikTok video than reading a textbook.
How we built it
We built SkibidiNotes by mapping out a simple yet effective user journey:
- Upload: Students upload their notes in PDF or text format.
- Summarise: AI models process and summarise these notes into concise study points.
- Generate Video: The summaries are overlaid on dynamic gameplay or background videos, with AI-generated voiceovers to engage auditory and visual memory.
- Quiz: Users complete a short quiz to reinforce what they have learnt.
On the technical side, we used AI models for natural language summarisation, paired with a React frontend and dynamic video integration to create a seamless, scroll-worthy learning experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was ensuring synchronisation between the video playback and the displayed summarised notes. We wanted the user experience to feel as fluid and natural as watching short-form content, which required precise rendering logic and timing alignment. Another challenge was generating realistic AI voiceovers within our time constraints and integrating them with the summarised content.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that our project managed to:
- Generate AI voiceovers for the summaries
- Produce short-form videos that integrate both visuals and text effectively
- AI can read the uploaded document and the summarised content
- Build an MVP that brings our vision of scroll-worthy studying to life
What we learned
Throughout the development of SkibidiNotes, we deepened our understanding of:
- User-centered design: Crafting experiences that align with how students naturally consume content
- Learning psychology: Applying cognitive science principles to improve retention and focus
- AI integration: Leveraging AI for summarisation and voice synthesis within a web application
- Full-stack development: Building and deploying an interactive, multi-modal educational platform
What's next for SkibidiNotes
Looking ahead, we aim to:
- Enhance our Library page to support a shared learning experience. Users who choose to make their notes public will contribute to a communal library, enabling others to access, learn from, and be inspired by their insights.
- Refine the AI summarisation to adapt tone and depth based on user learning preferences.
- Gamify learning further, introducing streaks, XP points, and collaborative challenges to keep motivation high.
- Expand content styles, including short-form explainer animations and memes to cater to different learning moods.
Our goal is to create a dynamic platform where everyone can benefit from the collective knowledge of the community while feeling like they’re scrolling their favourite feeds.
