Inspiration
I've always wanted a convenient hub for searching for games, without having to traverse each individual distributors websites. A website to achieve this is lacking in the market and we wanted to fill this void to not only create a product to convenience ourselves, but all gamers around the world.
What it does
Our website cumulates data regarding video games and stores them in our cloud database. We then retrieve this data when a user searches for a game and display the information on our website, designed with the latest cutting-edge-technology.
How we built it
We put sweat and tears into learning the appropriate frameworks, using Flask to host our server-side, React to construct the front-end, and Python scripts to load our database with information that we can retrieve and display.
Challenges we ran into
All of us lacked experience building a full stack product with many moving parts, and as such there was a high learning curve to overcome. Although we made much progress, we still have a long ways to go in this project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how much we were able to develop, specifically setting up the database and preparing it for vectorized queries. Retrieving and displaying the information was another huge achievement as the data was difficult to work with due to its incompleteness.
What we learned
We learnt the fundamentals of web and server development, along with integrating various technologies.
What's next for SkibiDB
We aim to continue our development of this project, and without a time constraint, we aim to rebuild some of our systems to manage and present data in an effective manner.
